Review: Your Name

A Whimsical and Passion-Filled Daydream

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live somewhere else? How about live the life of someone you never met? Someone of the opposite sex?

the-amazing-spidderesRivaling Studio Ghibli with its use of breathtaking scenery and dazzling character animation. Your Name is a Romantic Drama about two high school students who seem to switch bodies with another in their dreams. The film deals with themes of regret, loss and fantasy. As the characters soon find out, the consequences of living someone else’s life.

I was about as emotionally available as a rock going into this film. Needless to say, I was not disappointed in the slightest. Your Name pushes the boundaries on what is possible within the realms of story telling. It was powerful to witness the changes that could be made in another’s life, when someone else is living it. New perspective, body language and dialect. All shape how a person is viewed. I was deeply moved at the characters display of raw and genuine emotions. It was a triumph of spectacular and believable cinematic love. Yes, there were times I was yelling at the TV. There were times when I cried. Plan on having a sleepover in your heart, because all the emotions are invited and it’s gonna be an all-nighter.

beutfyDue to the confidence the film has for its own ingenious plot. I was able to relive memories of high school and past relationships. The personal touch and deeper connection I felt was strong. When a character would triumph, I felt like I was winning along side them. When trails would befall them, you’d feel your stomach drop.

Please go and do yourself a favor. Watch Your Name. I promise you will cry, but hopefully in a good way:)

TIPS: DO NOT watch the trailer for this movie. Their are plot twists and multiple arches. It’s best with as little background knowledge about it as possible. I went in that way, and I was pleasantly entertained. I’m serious. Take my word for it, please. My goal, is your maximum enjoyment. Cheers and let me know what you think, if my review made ya watch it!
